Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Hits the Screen

(10/9 to 10/19, times vary) — ’Tis the season when we’re starting to feel less guilty about heading out of the sun and into darkened movie theaters. Herewith, the 19th annual installment of this film festival, which showcases extraordinary LGBT works over 10 days. The fun kicks off tonight with Back On Board: Greg Louganis at the newly re-opened SIFF Cinema Egyptian.

Must Play
A Festival For Kids at the Seattle Center

Sunday (10/12, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) — The “first annual” Seattle Children’s Festival—not to be confused with its predecessor, the Seattle International Children’s Festival—promises international flair aplenty in the form of West African dance performances and marimba groups, an appearance by Seattle-based world-champion jump roper Rene Bibaud and hands-on lessons in urban farming.

Must See
Kinky Boots Marches to Fifth Avenue Theater

(10/7 to 10/26, times vary) — Soul meets sole in this Broadway adaptation of the true story of a straitlaced British shoe factory owner trying to rescue his family’s ailing business. Saving the day is Lola, whose Achilles heel is that she can’t find a pair of stilettos that will bear a man’s weight. Voilà! The shoe factory steps in to fill the void, and a Tony Award–winning smash is born. Book by Harvey Fierstein and music by Cyndi Lauper.

Must Shop
Evening Gowns on Parade at Neiman Marcus

(10/9 to 10/11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) — In the market for one a stunning ensemble to don at your fall and holiday parties? Swing into Neiman Marcus at Bellevue’s The Shops at the Bravern for a weekend loaded with the latest gown collections from the likes of Milly and Badgley Mischka.
