Fisherman’s Village Music Festival
(3/31-4/2) Seattle isn’t the only place to catch a great show; this weekend, get out of the city and head north to Everett’s annual Fisherman’s Village Music Festival, an all-ages event hosted by the Everett Music Initiative. Check out over fifty local bands from afternoon to night at a number of downtown Everett venues like Tony V’s Garage, Everett Performing Arts Center, Black Lab Gallery and The Anchor. The lineup this year includes acts like Jenn Champion, Fruit Juice and Everett’s own Kevin Murphy of The Moondoggies. Free Krav Maga Seattle Self-Defense Class 
(4/1) On March 5th, Kelly Herron was brutally attacked by a man in a restroom at Golden Gardens Park, where she was training for a marathon. Using skills she had learned three weeks earlier at a self-defense class, she escaped and trapped her assailant in the bathroom. This Saturday, in recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Seattle’s Krav Maga (named for the official self defense and combat system of the Israeli Defense Forces) will hold its third annual Women’s Empowerment Seminar, a free, three-hour session where women fourteen-and-up will learn skills like the ones Herron used to defend herself against her attacker. 1-4 p.m., free. Telling: Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse Step into the Light
(3/31–4/2) Using original music, dance and poetry, a cast of seven child abuse survivors take center stage with personal stories of childhood abuse. By sharing their experiences and the strength and courage that helped them through, Telling is a roadmap of healing to other victims and survivors. In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, a portion of the proceeds will be used to benefit local organizations that support sexual abuse survivors and work to prevent abuse. Our Journey Home
(4/4) Seattle shelters are filled with thousands of men, women and children each night, and almost 2.2 million people throughout the nation live in public housing. The documentary, Our Journey Home, narrated by Jewel, tells true and timely stories of the people behind these statistics as they struggle to support family, educate themselves, give back to society and finally, have a place they can call home.
