Edgy and Modern 8telier Opens at Pacific Place
Stack your wardrobe with these ultra wearable and super timeless black-and-white pieces
By Whitney Garrett November 4, 2014
Seattle-based fashion designer Jean Glover, whose career in clothing design has spanned more than 15 years, has recently opened a store at Pacific Place for her line 8telier. This is the first brick-and-mortar space for the clothing line, which since 2008, has been wholly online.
Located next to jewelry boutique Twist on the first floor of the downtown shopping hub, the contemporary store is an ode to modern architecture with its stark white walls, built-in cubby spaces and angular vignettes, which make the black, gray and white clothing pieces pop. “Seattle loves neutral colors like black, gray, white, and tan,” Glover says of her line’s muted color palette.
As for the name, the 8 stands for the eight style qualities Glover has pursued with her designs: chic, modern, cool, effortless, sexy, minimal, edgy and no nonsense. Consider an easy-to-love piece such as the asymmetrical front-zip Elise Moto Jacket ($419), constructed in a material that Glover notes “looks and feels like high-quality leather but is sustainable and machine washable.” Another versatile fave is the sleeveless Sabine Top in gray ($98) with an asymmetrical hem and draped bodice.
8telier is also incorporating home decor into its offerings and hopes to expand this area as the store evolves. Currently on its stylish shelves are several products from Ballard-based Blackbird including the black Izba incense pyres ($28) and the woodsy-meets-minty May 18th black soap ($28), which is inspired by the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. (Are you noticing the black-and-white theme yet?)
If you stop by 8telier, you’ll likely run into Glover. She works in the shop, hoping to gain one fan at a time. “We design for real life so it’s invaluable for us to be in the presence of our customers.”
