New Video: Eli West’s “Give Me Your Love & I’ll Give You Mine”

The new tempered instrumental is a sweet joy

Often in today’s music scene, there’s a push for the four-on-the-floor, the dance track, the club hit or the thing that will make your body move. But the mind and body are, of course, moved by more than one style. Sometimes it’s the long, drawn out wait, the musical stretching and sonic patience that does the trick. And this is evident on the pretty instrumental ballad, “Give Me Your Love & I’ll Give You Mine,” by Eli West featuring guitarist Bill Frisell.

The song, from West’s new album The Both, is measured and precise and the video for the music is calm and beautiful. The Both, West says, is a “split concept album,” based on his two very different grandfathers. “The first half is made up of vocal duets of American folk songs,” West says, “and the second half is more instrumental improvisations.”

If the record is anything like it’s first single, it will deserve your time.
