Order Starbucks without leaving your bed: Starbucks brightened many groggy mornings yesterday with the announcement of its new delivery service in partnership with Postmates. The service, “Starbucks Delivery by Postmates,” lets customers use the Starbucks mobile app to order food and drinks for delivery within an hour. This is the pilot stage of the service, and it is only offered in Seattle and on iOS. With a steep delivery fee of $5.99, the app is suggested for larger orders–unless you are willing to sacrifice some serious cash for bedside ‘Bucks.

Calling all future captainsWashington State Ferries is looking for 60 new deckhands with the hope that they can take higher-ranking jobs, such as captain, when aging crew members retire in the next decade. Sixty-two percent of the system’s 79 captains are 55 or older, suggesting an upcoming need for replacements if/when current captains choose to retire. The Seattle Times reported the benefits of both deckhand and captain positions: “An entry-level deckhand could rise to captain in six years, though 10 years is more realistic, given that these begin as on-call positions, with grueling and seasonal schedules in early years. Pay begins at $22.67 per hour for ordinary seamen, rising to $46.78 for captains.” For more information, visit the Washington State Department of Transportation website.

Optimism Brewing Co. is serving beer with a side of positivity. Located on Capitol Hill at the corner of Broadway and E Union Street, this no-frills brewery, with no food offerings, tip requirement or cash payments, is making tasty beer accessible to novices and beer-lovers alike. Owners Troy Hakala and Gay Gilmore want the public to know that all are welcome: “We believe that people who say they don’t like beer simply haven’t found the right beer yet. We want to help people find their favorite beer by introducing them to more types.” Optimism opens this Saturday and general hours are Thursday through Friday 3 to 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Want to be the first to ride Seattle’s new streetcar? City transportation officials are offering a tour of the First Hill service today from 11-3 p.m. at the north terminus along Broadway at Denny Way, 14th Avenue at South Washington Street, and South Jackson Street at Occidental Avenue South. The tour is a part of the streetcar’s safety event, one of the final preparations before the service is open to the public. This event is an indicator that the streetcar will begin operation soon; however, a specific date has yet to be disclosed.
