Do you ever miss school? Okay, maybe you don’t miss geometry proofs and five-paragraph essays. But what if you could take a class this summer on cheese-making or science fiction writing? Non-credit classes for adults are hugely popular in Seattle this summer.
At Seattle Central College, director of the continuing education program Gabrielle Bachmeier states that SCC sees about 500 non-credit class registrations every quarter. The average age of SCC’s continuing education students, who come from diverse backgrounds and professions, is about 30 to 55, according to Bachmeier.
Cole Hornaday, marketing specialist at North Seattle College, reports that NSC hosts more than 100 non-credit classes this summer, and gets more than 5,000 registrations year-round. “Continuing education classes are the perfect opportunity for personal enrichment and community engagement,” Hornaday says.
