Must List: 6 Things to Do in Seattle This Week

Hey, how are you? We’ve been loving these late summer storms with the windows open and the wind blowing through. This week in Seattle, there’s plenty going on: a new bar for book lovers is opening this winter, KEXP will be live in Mexico this fall, the Black Co-op Fund is celebrating Black Philanthropy Month next week, and the new Bumbershoot poster is on sale, supporting a great cause.

It’s the perfect time of year to get outside for a run, walk, kayak, bike ride, or sail — after all, we’re the best outdoor-friendly city in the country. And when you’re done, why not cap it off with a visit to one of our favorite speakeasies for a swanky night out?

Twenty One Pilots

Thursday, Aug. 22
8 p.m., Climate Pledge Arena, $54+

Twenty One Pilots are bringing a mix of electropop, rock, and rap to the stage. If you’re into unpredictable performances with big energy then you should definitely be there.

Kevin Hart: Acting My Age

Friday, Aug. 23
7:30 p.m., 10:30 p.m., WaMu Theater, $35

Kevin Hart is back on the road with his “Acting My Age” tour, so expect some of his signature humor and new takes on what it means to be Kevin Hart in 2024.

The Evergreen State Fair

Aug. 22- 27 & Aug. 29-Sept. 2
11 a.m.-11 p.m., The Evergreen State Fair Park, $10+

There’s nothing like a trip to the country fair. The food, the animals (especially the goats!) the rides — it’s the best. Sure, it might get hot, the lines are long, and everything costs more than it should, but what else are you gonna do? Grab a corn dog and head to the rodeo.

HangarFest

Saturday, Aug. 24
7 p.m., The Museum of Flight, $30-$65

Enjoy a dreamy summer evening surrounded by historic aircraft. Sip on local craft brews, wines, and spirits, and grab a bite from a food truck. With some outdoor games adding to the fun, this 21+ event makes for a good date night with plenty of photo ops among the planes.

Festival Sundiata Presents Black Arts Fest

Aug. 23- Aug. 24
noon-8 p.m., Seattle Center, Free

Celebrate African American culture at the longest-running African American festival in the Pacific Northwest. Since 1980, this festival has honored the legacy of Sundiata Keita, the legendary King of Kings from West Africa. The weekend comes alive with hip hop, dance, gospel, and visual arts. Eat soul food, explore exhibits, and browse the marketplace.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO

Tuesday, Aug. 27
8 p.m., Climate Pledge Arena, $54+

From “Turn to Stone,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” and “Sweet Talkin’ Woman” to “Livin’ Thing” and “Last Train to London” — I could keep going — it’s your chance to see it all live. This is orchestral and vocal magic that only ELO can deliver.
