If you’re lucky enough to be jetting off to a tropical isle this month, whip your wardrobe into shape with something from Pua, a line of beach-worthy dresses, skirts and tops by Ballard’s Shala Sullivan Daniel, owner of former Queen Anne boutique La Femme.

Pua means “flower” and “child” in Hawaiian—a perfect name for the self-described flower child, who attributes her inspiration to the islands of Hawaii “from the patterns that the waves make in the sand to the color of a bird.” Daniel, who  spends several weeks a year in the Aloha State, uses organic cotton and soft bamboo jersey in bright colors for her flowing, easy clothing. “The designs came from a need to have something comfortable to wear to the beach that I could slip off easily and tuck away while surfing.”

We think her dresses, especially the diaphanous Kahi crinkle dress, $72, are the perfect option to don from beach to bar wherever (or whenever) the sun is shining. Pua clothing ranges from $38 to $172 for a sundress and is available at etsy.com/shop/shoppua.

Tinsel, eggnog, mistletoe, and luggage

Travel lovers are the easiest people to buy for. Wrap a gift in old maps and they’ll spend hours deciphering the roadways and important coordinates. Put something inside the wrapping that will satiate their wanderlust, or encourage it, and you might be their next invitee to Paris.
