Must Fest
Head East for the Annual Kirkland Uncorked

(7/17 to 7/19, times vary) This three-day summer food and wine festival takes over the scenic Marina Park on Lake Washington and features everything from wine tasting to dog modeling to a burger brawl, where chefs bust out every foodie ingredient necessary to win bragging rights as the Eastside’s best burger.

Must See
ACT Presents Hold These Truths

(7/17 to 8/16, times vary) This play tells the true story of University of Washington student and Seattle native Gordon Hirabayashi who, in 1942, refused to register for internment with other Japanese-American citizens during World War II. The one-man show—a sold-out success last year—compellingly portrays a young man’s struggle to reconcile love of country with an appalling betrayal.

Must Save the Date
Nab Your Tickets to Seattle magazine’s Red, White & Brew

Friday (7/24, 6 to 9 p.m.) If you missed last year’s spectacular tasting event, you have another chance. Red, White & Brew, a fete jam-packed with award-winning Washington wines, beer from local breweries, cocktails and snacks galore, is back for the fourth year, this time taking place atop the Rainier Tower.

Must Shop
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Starts This Weekend

(7/17 to 8/3, times vary) Nordy’s big blowout sale starts this Friday. Expect crowds, more crowds and incredible markdowns on all the newest and most on-trend clothing, shoes and handbags that Nordstrom trend-watchers, buyers and designers have on deck for fall.

Must Read
Attend a Live Recording of Nancy Pearl’s Book-Filled Podcast

Thursday (7/23, 7:30 p.m.) Beloved Seattle librarian Nancy Pearl joins former KUOW host Steve Scher for a live taping of their podcast, “That Stack of Books,” in which they talk of new and noteworthy titles. An excellent source of summer reading!
