Summertime Finds (Cocktail Gear!) & Fun (Chicken Coop Tour!)
By Seattle Mag July 11, 2014
As the temperature climbs, Seattleites embrace the summertime lifestyle with an exceptional zeal. Unlike, say citizens in sustained hot-weather climes, we try to make the most out of every one of our sun-drenched days. And that includes giving our shopping lists a decidedly sunny twist with some hot goods like:
Outdoor Fatboy chairs ($329) and Shatterproof Govino Flutes ($15 for set of four) at Click! Design that Fits (West Seattle; 4540 California Ave. SW; 206.328.9252)
Mason Jar Shaker ($36) and Little Shirley Pod Vases ($26) at Ravenna Gardens (University Village, 2600 NE University Village; 206.729.7388)
Disposable Palm Leaf Plates ($6.95 and up for a set of 8) and Lemon Melamine Serving Collection ($3.99-$14.99, sale pricing) at Sur la Table (Pike Place Market; 84 Pine St.; 206.448.2244; and locations in Kirkland and Bellevue)
Fruitsuper Designs’ Brass Lift Coasters ($68 for set of four) and Headdemock Hammocks ($499; pictured above) at Digs (Ballard, 2002 NW Market St.; 206.457.5709). FYI: this Saturday (7/12), 6-9 p.m. during the Ballard Art Walk, Digs will be showcasing new works from local furniture maker Urbancase
And aisle cruising aside, what better way to enjoy Seattle’s summertime than spending a day on the farm, or at 25 farms? Seattle Tilth’s annual Chicken Coop & Urban Farm Tour is this Saturday (7/12), 10 a.m.-4 p.m. As well as the chance to talk to the animals, you can check out the latest in animal architecture (whether housing for chickens, mini goats or bees) during this self-guided tour of our neighboring farms. Tickets are available at select area businesses (Seattle Tilth Main Office; Walt’s Organic Fertilizer; Portage Bay Grange; and Seattle Farm Co-op), or to order online, and see tour maps, visit:
