Must Cheer
Red Bull Soapbox Race
Sunday (8/24, 1 p.m.) — Seattle’s creative and adventurous makers will compete in this infamous race, in which 41 teams will careen down Yesler Way in homemade non-motorized vehicles. Expect crowds (the last race drew 40,000), hilarity (each team must perform a skit before shoving off) and cars themed around popular Seattle icons like Jimi Hendrix, Bertha, the Fremont Troll and yes, Macklemore.
Must See
‘Angels in America’ at Cornish Playhouse
(Through 9/21, times vary) — Intiman Theater Festival presents Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer prize-winning play, Angels in America, about a gay man struggling with AIDS in 1980s Manhattan. Starring Marya Sea Kaminski as the angel and featuring costumes by Seattle artist Mark Mitchell.
Must Meet & Shop
Kylie and Kendall Jenner at Nordstrom
Saturday (8/23, 2 p.m.) — Two of the Kardashian/Jenner clan will be on hand for a meet and greet at the downtown Nordstrom this weekend for the launch of Kendall & Kylie for Madden Girl, a fall/winter collection of shoes and handbags.
Must Taste
Lady Yum Opens in Kirkland
French macaron shop Lady Yum opened a storefront in Kirkland and the adorable little spot is packed with brightly colored macarons in an assortment of mouth-watering flavors, including Maple-Bacon, Mango-Habanaro and Pineapple Upside Down Cake.
Must Abide
It’s Dude Fest at Fremont Outdoor Movies
Saturday 8/23, times vary — Don your bathrobe and order up a White Russian–it’s time for Dude Fest, when Fremont Outdoor Movies screens cult favorite The Big Lebowski and serves up The Dude’s signature drink and awards prizes for best costume.
