Leading off on this ridiculously cold Wednesday morning:

Windy conditions last night again knocked out power for many folks in Western Washington, and there are several area schools that are shut down. At 7:30 a.m., Puget Sound Energy told King 5 there were around 53,000 customers without power.

The deadline to enter our Cover Pet contest is nigh! We’re looking for one sweet, photogenic and way cool pet to feature on the cover of our February 2015 issue, which will dive into all things pets. Our contest is open to all kinds of cherished creatures, so that includes cats, dogs, ferrets, turtles, tarantulas, iguanas, teacup pigs, or basically any other pet that is able to attend a photo shoot. How to enter? Simply Instagram a photo of your pet using the hashtag #Seattlemagcoverpet and tell us why your four-legged (or eight-legged…or no-legged) friend should be our cover star. If you don’t have Instagram, email your submission to [email protected]. Deadline for submissions is November 14.
