Aromatherapy is a proven component of feeling good, as is self-pampering in the form of scented soaps, fragrant lotions and soothing candles. Ted Kennedy Watson has been a purveyor of such simple extravagances since he opened his first store, Watson Kennedy Fine Living, near Pike Place Market in 1998. His second store, Watson Kennedy Fine Home (1022 First Ave.; 206.652.8350; watsonkennedy.com), downtown, opened in 2001. Watson looks for what he calls “classic lines,” such as Fresh, Molton Brown, Diptyque, Cote Bastide and Santa Maria Novella, many of which he has carried since he first opened. The stores brim with tasteful art, linens, jewelry and gifts—with more to be found in the new book Watson Kennedy: The A-to-Z of Living a Beautiful Life (Sterling, to be published on Mother’s Day 2014).

Also shop: Formulary 55 (University District, 2612 NE 55th St.; 206.729.2548; formulary55.com) offers small-batch, often handmade bath and body basics, especially the in-house line Sweet Petula. Essenza (Fremont, 615 N 35th St.; 206.547.4895; essenzaseattle.com) has an astonishing array of perfume, including Serge Lutens and Diptyque (the best candles made).
