Preview Shanik’s Menu, Plus an Update on the Opening
Can you tell we're eager for this restaurant to open?
By Seattle Mag October 29, 2012
We’ve been telling you about Meeru Dhalwala’s Shanik, the most anticipated restaurant opening of the year, for a while now. (Pick up our November Best New Restaurants issue to read our full-length preview of Vij’s much-anticipated sibling restaurant!)
Originally set to open in November, the opening’s been pushed back to early December now. But just to tease us a little more, Shanik’s menu is up! You’ll notice local seafood and produce is featured in many dishes, and, as Dhalwala promised, much of the menu is vegetarian. Just beware: If you haven’t had lunch yet, this’ll have your stomach growling.
Among the entrees: spot prawns in coconut and saffron masala; coriander and black cardamom lamb in buttermilk curry; Kale, jackfruit, cauliflower and potato curry. And what’s that I see? Oh, just the lamb popsicles that’ve helped make Vij’s world famous (spice crusted, with coconut curry and split peas, spinach and garlic mash).
Starters include south-Indian spiced lentil pate with ginger-date pickle; Samosas filled with lamb and beef sautéed in fennel , cloves and sumac, *or* lentils, paneer and chickpeas, *or* ricotta cheese, garlic and fenugreek; and another genius-sounding pate, this one made of eggplant and paneer.
