As part of their current exhibition Mw [Moment Magnitude], the Frye Museum Store has been re-conceptualized by photographer Charlie Schuck into one of the most exciting and interesting retail experiences to hit the scene in ages. Schuck, who also owns Belltown’s Object, has transformed the Museum Store into a modern repository for Seattle’s best and brightest ascending designers, from jewelry to furniture, home décor to wearables, including work by Actual Pain, Free Time Industries, &c. by Meghann Sommer, Tamara Codor and many, many more stellar talents. Schuck has also included found objects from his travels, including kids’ toys and a corner devoted to spiritualism inspired by the Frye’s permanent collection of Victorian-era paintings.

This is an excellent place to shop for holiday gifts, especially for those on your list who appreciate fine design, high quality, locally made goods and like to keep up with the coolest, most hip work exploding out of the Emerald City.

The Museum Store in its present incarnation will be open until the exhibit closes on January 20. Each Thursday, the Museum Store will be hosting participating designers in small meet-and-greet/demo events called Meet the Makers. On Thursday November 29, from 4-7 p.m. Meet the Makers features Meghann Sommers of &c. And on Thursday December 6, also from 4 to 7 p.m.  designers Jean Lee & Dylan Davis of Ladies & Gentlemen Studio will be the featured designers. Each week, designers will be demonstrating their craft the Museum Store and champagne will served.

Tinsel, eggnog, mistletoe, and luggage

Travel lovers are the easiest people to buy for. Wrap a gift in old maps and they’ll spend hours deciphering the roadways and important coordinates. Put something inside the wrapping that will satiate their wanderlust, or encourage it, and you might be their next invitee to Paris.
