Each year, Seattle magazine combs the city for emerging designers hungry to change the local fashion landscape. In this year’s fourth annual smackdown, we saw a wild array of fresh designs that go well beyond day-to-day attire, from fanciful lingerie and sweet maternity clothes to collections made for the active Seattleite—hip dance wear, sportswear and bike wear.

From a pool of 28 designers, a septuplet of talented women emerged victorious. From Japanese-streetwear-inspired fashion to innovative men’s suits (made from Gore-Tex!), these burgeoning clothiers combine form, function and all-out fun for high-fashion attire that stays true to its distinctive Northwest roots.

Click the names of each designer below to learn more about their work (and sneak a peek at the pieces that earned them their respective prizes!)

Emily Riordan-Roache (Best Northwest-Inspired)

Malia Peoples (Most Playful Attire)

Banchong Douangphrachanh (Most Innovative Menswear)

Kathy Sabin-mensah (Best Evening Wear)
