Open wide: July is an unofficial monthlong celebration of the foods we Northwesterners love best. First up are dueling berry festivals on the same weekend: The Vashon Island Strawberry Festival (7/17–7/19; free; times and locations vary; along Vashon Highway; 206.463.6217), celebrating its 100th anniversary with a “berry” grand parade on Saturday, and the Lynden Raspberry Festival (7/18–7/19; free; times vary; Front Street, Lynden; 360.354.5995). Also that weekend is the annual Bite of Seattle (7/17–7/19; free; times vary; Seattle Center, 305 Harrison St.; 425.283.5050), where our dream of having all of our fave restaurants in the same giant food court is finally a reality (with more than 60 restaurants, seven entertainment stages, cooking demos and a high-class food alley sponsored by Tom Douglas). Give yourself the week to digest, then head to Ballard for the annual Ballard Seafood Fest (7/25–7/26; free; times vary; downtown Ballard, at NW Market Street and Ballard Avenue; 206.784.9705), when the streets are shut down to pay homage to the bounty of the sea with food booths, live entertainment and plenty of sea-themed, kid-friendly activities.
