MUST SPICE UP YOUR STYLE
Thaw Fashion Show
Thursday (5/5) –
A fundraiser for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, the Thaw Fashion Show features VIP cabanas, tequila lounges and blazing runway fashion from local designers, including menswear line Like a Rock Star, burlesque costume designer Mark Mitchell and Danial Webster’s sassy underwear. A preshow cocktail hour showcases new garments by past winners of Seattle magazine’s Seamless in Seattle competition. 6 p.m. $75–$250. SoDo, 1531 Utah Ave. S; thawfashionshow.com

MUST DRESS UP
Soundsuit Parade at SAM’s Community Night Out

Thursday (5/5) – If you’ve seen fabric sculptor/performance artist/dancer Nick Cave’s otherworldy soundsuits (on display now at the Seattle Art Museum), you’ve probably also imagined what it would feel like to wear a soundsuit of your own. Tomorrow, the public will have the chance to do just that at SAM’s soundsuit parade. Part of the museum’s community night out, parade-goers will meet at the Hammering Man wearing suits of their own creation beginning at 5:30 p.m. Feeling crafty? Check out Brangien Davis‘ May story on how to make your own DIY soundsuit from everyday materials and join the parade. A shrug made of ceramic birds? A gown made of old Beanie Babies? Oh the possibilities. Parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Seattle Art Museum, 1300 First Ave.; 206.654.3100; seattleartmuseum.org

MUST TASTE
Pea vines

It’s spring! And throughout Seattle, chefs are dreaming up tasty ways to use freshly shucked peas and pea vines. Celebrate this delightfully early crop by swinging into Tilikum Place Café. The pea vine salad is an exercise in layering of textures: A large crouton base sits under lightly wilted pea vines, served warm but still firm, which echo the same grassy sweetness of a handful of delicate peas, all topped with a poached egg waiting to be broken and tossed with a pancetta and red wine vinaigrette. $8. Belltown, 407 Cedar St.; 206.282.4830; tilikumplacecafe.com. For more pea vine dishes pick up a copy of our June issue.

MUST IMBIBE
El Camino’s House Margarita

Drink to Cinco de Mayo with El Camino’s house margarita. The drink is a bracing, bright pour of slightly butterscotch-y Sauza Gold tequila with triple sec and a mouthwatering blend of fresh citrus juices. It comes in a cold tumbler rimmed with kosher salt that you may feel compelled to lick. Nothing like a cold margarita to help celebrate Cinco de Mayo in style. $7. El Camino, 607 N 35th St.; 206.632.7303; elcaminorestaurant.com. Want more? Check out our margarita round up.

MUST WATCH
The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs
Through 5/22 –
Seattle’s master monologist Mike Daisey brings his trademark hilarity and insight to The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, his paean and plea to Apple’s head honcho. With a bare-bones performance style—limited props, low lighting—Daisey dissects some of the most complex issues in modern American culture. In this case, he asks: “How did one obsessive man change the world to his liking—and at what cost?” Times and prices vary. Seattle Repertory Theatre, 155 Mercer St.; 206.443.2222; seattlerep.org. Read arts and culture editor Brangien Davis’ haiku review of the show.
