The fashion industry has been quick to adopt technology—from allowing customers to purchase via Instagram to curating closets through rental services—making expensive designer wear accessible to the masses. In the same vein, Glamhive (GH), a six-year old Seattle-based startup, is revolutionizing the personal styling industry by giving users access to personal stylists from around the world—including those who dress A-list celebrities—in the comfort of one’s home. With style resolutions top of mind for the new year, we chatted with founder Stephanie Sprangers about what makes Glamhive so unique.

Seattle magazine: What inspired you to create GH?

Rebecca Sprangers: I have a background in startups and affiliate marketing so GH started out as a tool intended for influencers, where GH users could click-and-shop their favorite blogger’s outfits. After talking with our users, I realized that a lot of them actually reach out for one-on-one styling advice, which was the catalyst for evolving GH into a virtual styling company.

SM: What does GH offer that other personal styling services do not?

RS: An authentic one-on-one relationship between our clients and stylists with the added convenience of enjoying our services at home. Curated shopping boxes—like Stitch Fix—are convenient but they don’t know what’s already in your closet. Also, since our stylists work remotely, they are brand and department store agnostic and select pieces that truly complement your silhouette and personal style.

SM: What is the best piece of styling advice that you have received on GH?

RS: I’ve always enjoyed showing off my legs but my stylist suggested that I should try skirts with a side slit to show off length, instead of the short skirts I was so fond of. Everyone has a part of them that they like to show off but we can become complacent if we get into a routine.

SM: Who are some of the super star stylists that GH users can book?

RS: Users can book stylists from around the world. If they want to incorporate style from across the pond, they can book a stylist in London. We have a roster of celebrity stylists including Janelle Miller, who styles Khloe Kardashian, and Tanya Gill who counts Jane Fonda as a client.

SM: What can a user expect to pay?

RS: On average, Glamhive users can expect to pay anywhere from $75 to $3,000 depending on the type of service and stylist level. We offer a wide range of services from a 20-minute style consults to full wardrobe makeovers.

SM: What’s next?

RS: We launched the Glamhive Live conference in Los Angeles this past August. I would love to have more events in other cities in the future!
