Black Watch
Opens Thursday (4/25–5/5) — A song-filled play about a Scottish regiment’s involvement in the Iraq War turns out to be one of the most successful ideas in recent theatrical history. Based on interviews conducted by writer Gregory Burke, this National Theatre of Scotland production has won countless critical accolades and 22 awards internationally. The story follows the Black Watch regiment to the front lines of Iraq in 2004, and the soldiers’ return to hometown bars. The Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine St.; 206.682.1414; stgpresents.org

NFFTY Film Festival
Thursday–Sunday (4/25–4/28) — NFFTY, the world’s largest youth film festival, brings together the many voices of 22-and-younger filmmakers worldwide. Founded by a teen filmmaker from Seattle and now in its seventh year, the four-day event features films in every genre, including a slew from young Washington filmmakers, whose subjects range from the dark side of nature (Deep Down) to emerging subcultures (My Little Brony). Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic at EMP
Opens Saturday (4/27) — Fantasy nerds, rejoice! EMP’s new permanent exhibit, Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic, invites visitors of all ages to explore the fantastic worlds created for beloved movies including The Princess Bride, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal. Thursday (April 25) — This annual benefit for the Lifelong AIDS Alliance is in its 20th year of raising funds to meet the needs of patients in the area.
