Estates Wine Room opens in Pioneer Square

Tasting room will feature wines from Double Canyon and Archery Summit

This year’s major urban winery news was the opening of Charles Smith Wines Jet City in Georgetown, which still holds the title of largest urban winery on the West Coast.

On Dec. 11, a smaller but important urban winery and tasting room will unlock its doors, this time in Pioneer Square.

The Estates Wine Room will add another layer to Seattle’s burgeoning urban winery scene (and the many reasons to skip the long drive to wine country). The 1,800-square-foot Estates Wine Room will showcase limited production, estate-grown wines from Crimson Wine Group’s Northwest wineries, Double Canyon (syrah and cabernet sauvignon from the Horse Heaven Hills in Washington) and Archery Summit (pinot noir from the Dundee Hills and Ribbon Ridge in Willamette Valley, Oregon). I love the latter’s crisp pinot gris.

Expect a standing tasting bar, retail area, private tasting room and large-scale photo installation featuring images of vineyards from both properties. Come 2016, seated tastings will be available outdoors. For now, look for flights ($25), wines by the glass ($12-$20), and light bites from local eateries.

You can also score A. Bergere, Crimson’s Champagne property in France, by the glass for $18-$20. Bubbles!

The Estates Wine Room is located at 307 Occidental Ave South in Pioneer Square and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
