Mariners Opening Day: Live Macklemore Performance
Friday (4/8) – For the first time in 35 seasons, Dave Niehaus’ trademark baritone commentary will be silent. But as the old saying goes, the game must go on. To kick off their home opener against the Cleveland Indians, the M’s will honor the beloved announcer who passed away in November at the age of 75. (See our April essay on Niehaus by former Seattle P-I reporter Ellis Conklin.) Mariners fans might not have a whole lot to look forward to in terms of a winning season but thanks to Seattle rapper Macklemore, who will be performing his new tribute to Niehaus, “My Oh My.” Gates open at 4:40 p.m. Safeco Field, SoDo.
