It’s common knowledge that Seattle summer starts July 5, which means ohmygoditsfinallyhere. Hit the patios! Eat all the popsicles! Burn off the calories on the trails! And keep these ideas in mind when you’re planning your July eats and drinks: 

Drink for a cause.
On July 9 starting at 7 p.m., Navy Strength is throwing one hell of a party, with food and music, to raise money for RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services), the nonprofit that raised many millions via Facebook to help their work reuniting families at the border. Participating restaurants/bars include Babirusa, Addo, Ma’ono, Adana, Carlile Room, Barkada, Mean Sandwich and more. $15 may seem like a small donation, but every little bit helps (and they’ll surely take more if you have it).

Dine on doughnuts.
Raised, the ultra-popular doughnut we profiled as a Food We Love in March, has finally landed a brick and mortar location, open since June 30 in the Central District. The menu will be a combo of classics (chocolate bar, glazed, etc.) and owner Mi Kim’s signature flavors, like ube coconut, black sesame or her legendary doughnut holes dusted in freeze-dried raspberries. Those who waited in line at one of her pop-ups know these doughnuts aren’t easy to get—the permanent location will help that, but she’s still selling out an hour or two after opening each day (except Wednesday, when they’re closed), so if you’re serious about it, get there early.

Cheers your neighborhood goat.
Not only can you do yoga with goats, now you can drink beer with them, too (cue Portlandia theme). At Reuben’s Brews’ third annual Baby Goats & Brews on July 19, you can cuddle up with the adorable creatures to support the Puget Sound Goat Rescue’s work to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome goats. Get there earlier than the 3 p.m. start time—some 11,000 people have already expressed interest in going to the event on Facebook.

Tie on your lobster bib.
Lobster and old school hip hop may not be the most common pairing, but both are awesome, so why argue? Marine Hardware is hosting its next hip hop lobster night on July 15, with seatings at 5:30 and 8 p.m. for $55 per person, which a whole lobster, Old Bay French fries, asparagus, salad, corn on the cob, chilled tomato soup and a blueberry tartlet—pretty much summer on a plate. You’ll want to make reservations, as that restaurant is a small one: 206.257.4390. 

Speaking of seafood… plan ahead.
Tickets are on sale now for Oyster New Year, Elliott’s annual insanely popular event that doesn’t happen until Nov. 3, but if you don’t buy a ticket soon you’ll likely run the risk of it selling out. ONY raises money for Puget Sound Restoration Fund—your $120 ticket ($175 for VIP) buys all the oysters you can slurp from some 30 different varieties, plus a host of other seafood options and wine/beer as well.
