Fashion at the Opera: La Cenerentola
By Seattle Mag January 24, 2013
I took my six year-old daughter, Ruby, to Seattle Opera’s rendition of Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella) last week and we were both totally blown away by the costumes, which were bright, bold, graphic and totally over the top.
Set and costume designer Joan Guillén did a great job communicating the hilarious buffoonery of the stepsisters—the one with the pink hair being Ruby’s favorite, of course—and transforming Cinders herself into a cool grand dame without the help of a fairy godmother.
The run is in its final days (it ends Saturday, January 26), but La Boheme is next, which promises equally as dramatic costuming, albeit, much moodier and more Parisian.
