Our fashion-filled September continued last night with the 8th annual Fashion First at the Showbox SoDo, a rollickin’ fashion show fundraiser for Rise n’ Shine. Six of our Seamless in Seattle winners kicked off the evening with their own fashion set (Friday procrastination device: check out slideshows of their work here).

From a fashion perspective, the highlights of the runway show were Lizzie Parker’s clean, sleek-lined frocks and then Baby & Co.’s Scottish islands themed set, which was flush with warm, woolen layers, knee-high flat boots and plaid capes that felt so right for Seattle (see their Facebook page image below to see what I mean). Kudos, Jill Donnelly!

(Can I go take a side track for a second? As evidenced by the scantily-clad crowd last night, we seem to have a new obsession with flashing all manners of “lady bits” at these types of events, and I for one say it’s time for a style intervention. As my best dressed award winner last night proves, subtly and creativity will always win out over skin for me, and in the fashion realm too, I hope. A shining beacon towards that point last night was the classic, creative coat work and sophisticated frocks from local designer Heilyke. Ladies, take down her number.)

You might have heard: I have a bit of an obsession with The Vintage Angel Co. in Fremont, and this weekend you can score a pair of Susie Jarvis’ awesome thrifted boots for $15. Yep, all boots are on sale starting tomorrow, and all for just $15, so grab a cuppa joe and get there early!

Even just one purchase — a computer, for instance — can recoup a basic membership fee. Rumors have been swirling for years that the company would raise its…

Tinsel, eggnog, mistletoe, and luggage

Travel lovers are the easiest people to buy for. Wrap a gift in old maps and they’ll spend hours deciphering the roadways and important coordinates. Put something inside the wrapping that will satiate their wanderlust, or encourage it, and you might be their next invitee to Paris.
