It’s been a big week around here: Our fall shopping and style-packed September issue has hit the newsstands. In case you missed it, earlier this week, I gave readers a little behind the scenes peek at pulling the issue together –and trying to fit in over 100 local finds–here.

In that same issue, we call out Spun Sustainable Collective as one of our favorite new boutiques of the year; lucky for you, this weekend you can score some killer deals at the boutique’s first ever sample sale. Old stock, samples and one-offs will be offered between 20% – 90% off retail prices and include locally-made garments from the likes of Out of Line, Cameron Levin and even from store owner Sara Seumae’s SPUN line. (I’ve had my eye on the dress below for months.) Accessories and jewels from Dotty Speck and Joanna Morgan (also pictured below) will also be up for grabs. The sale runs from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. Saturday, but given all the Twitter chatter, I’d recommend getting there early. (Hey, Porchlight is right next door, so you can get caffeined-up ahead of time.)

In my mind, the phrases “fashionable” and “rain poncho” have never gone together. I’ve been proven wrong. I’m crushing hard on Seattle designer Ann DeOtte’s Iva Jean rain cape, so much so I *almost wish it would rain this weekend.

You know what other phrases have never married in my mind? “Cool” and “Crocs,” but thanks to our intrepid leader Rachel Hart, I stand corrected again. Vancouver B.C.-based Native Shoes has modeled their version of the light, easy slip-on after classic styles resembling Keds slip-ons and Vans loafers. If you think the adult styles are sweet, you should see the pint-sized ones.

Have a lovely weekend!

*But not really, this rare bit of sunshine is too glorious.

Costco Hikes Membership Fees

The company last raised the price in 2017

[addtoany]I love shopping at Costco. Sure, our household doesn’t always need 18 tubes of toothpaste at once, but that’s a small price to pay for the savings. Even just one purchase — a computer, for instance — can recoup a basic membership fee. Rumors have been swirling for years that the company would raise its…

Tinsel, eggnog, mistletoe, and luggage

Travel lovers are the easiest people to buy for. Wrap a gift in old maps and they’ll spend hours deciphering the roadways and important coordinates. Put something inside the wrapping that will satiate their wanderlust, or encourage it, and you might be their next invitee to Paris.
