I no longer have to hoard my child’s Pirates Booty, or the Trader Joe’s version: World’s Puffiest White Cheddar Corn Puffs.

It feels good to have my own fluffy cheese puffs. Granted, Portland-made Fuller Foods’ Serious Cheese Puffs are more expensive and could star in their own episode of the TV show Portlandia (these belly-tickled puffs are baked, not fried using Bob’s Red Mill Corn and are non-GMO, natch) but they’re also thick, long, spicy and umami-rific, thanks to loads of real asiago romano cheese and tons of black and white pepper. It takes a few bites to eat one but I can tell you I finished an entire bag along with a can of 2015 Underwood Wine Co Rose while catching up on Orange is the New Black. It was the perfect pairing.

The cheesy puffs come in other flavors (Blue Cheese Jalapeno, anyone?) and will hopefully be available at the soon-to-open New Seasons Market on Mercer Island (coming in November 2016) and Ballard in 2017. Currently, you can find them at Marx Pantry in Queen Anne for $5.

Tinsel, eggnog, mistletoe, and luggage

Travel lovers are the easiest people to buy for. Wrap a gift in old maps and they’ll spend hours deciphering the roadways and important coordinates. Put something inside the wrapping that will satiate their wanderlust, or encourage it, and you might be their next invitee to Paris.
