They say you eat first with your eyes, and these days, that often means via an Instagram account.

Since I can’t resist searching for decent dim sum (a largely futile effort), I found myself at Fashion Dim Sum’s modern strip-mall dining room in Edmonds after seeing the restaurant’s glistening pork buns (char siu bao) and plump shrimp dumplings (har gow) on social media. Happily, most of Fashion’s menu offers substance to back up those pretty pictures. Take, for example, these almost-too-cute-to-eat sweets: fluffy pig-faced steamed buns hiding rich (and abundant) egg custard ($3.85 for 3).

Dishes are made to order, and I promise that once you taste a freshly steamed bun, you won’t miss the usual dim sum carts.

Each time I return, for the mortadella sandwich with whipped ricotta and “pistachio jazz” at lunch or the black garlic knots at dinner, I marvel that the massive crowds of Seattle dining scenesters have yet to find it.
