Must Laugh
Local Artist Dons Sea Cucumber Costume in Manifesto

(5/22 to 5/24, times vary) Ilvs Strauss uses a sleeping bag as the basis for the California red sea cucumber outfit she dons in her funny and poignant piece Manifesto, in which she artfully combines a witty personal monologue about childbearing and womanhood with gestural dance, backup dancers, facial expressions and two costume changes.

Must See
Last Weekend of Jasper In Deadland

(Through 5/24, times vary) In this new pop-rock musical, a teen boy facing garden-variety demons is suddenly plunged into an underworld awash in more tangible monsters. Searching for a lost love, he encounters all manner of creatures and mythologies, and in the process, learns what it really means to be alive.

Must Watch
Five Foodie Films to Watch During SIFF

(Dates and times vary) SIFF’s inaugural Culinary Cinema program features 11 films related to food, drink and restaurants that will screen throughout the 25-day festival, including six Dinner and a Movie nights and opportunities to mingle with chefs and international culinary talent.

Must Go East
Young Designer-Makers in the PNW

(Through 8/16, times vary) This show celebrates our region’s wealth of smart designers by showcasing the innovative objects they create. From Lukas Peet’s gigantic paper-clip–like lamps to Iacoli & McAllister’s striped steel side tables, the show reveals a common emphasis on form, function and fun.

Must Swing
Jump Session Show’s 10th Anniversary

Friday (5/22, 6:30 p.m.) Camp Jitterbug draws hundreds of expert jazz dancers to workshops, heart-racing competitions and dance parties across the city. But slightly less coordinated civilians can experience the fun, too, at the public Jump Session Show, where teachers from all over demonstrate the styles of swing, jazz and jitterbug.

World premiere production of 'Mrs. Loman Is Leaving' examines identity and expectations

For actor-turned-playwright Katie Forgette, Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman — often considered one of the greatest plays of the 20th century — has resurfaced again and again throughout her life.
