Never underestimate the power of a woman.

Last year, Pun(c)tuation shop creative director Maikoiyo Alley-Barnes and designer Matt Noren collaborated to create an in-house men’s line for the shop (called “Tarboo,” after the Hood Canal inlet) and, while their handmade, lumberjack-like shirts got an enthusiastic response from local dudes, their biggest fans were women clamoring for their own Tarboo-style wear.

After six months spent learning the ropes of women’s wear, the duo debuted Tarboo for Her this fall.

“We spent time honing and tweaking designs so they were just right for a woman’s body,” says Alley-Barnes. “We wanted it to be well-constructed, functional and yet still appropriate for when people get dressed with a capital D.”

Made in their Pioneer Square loft (stop in and you’ll often find the designers clustered on couches hand-sewing buttons on shirts while listening to tunes), the Tarboo for Her microline features all-climate pieces made for layering, like tailored button-ups made with raw chambray or locally sourced wool twill ($118–$168), cotton and wool flannel long-sleeve shirts ($118–$158), and the star of the line, an expertly fitted shirt dress with smart back pleat to create shape ($128).
