Washington breweries brought home 11 medals from the 2018 U.S. Open Beer Championship. Congrats to Reuben’s Brews, Georgetown Brewing, Bron Yr Aur Brewing, and 20 Corners Brewing.

I should preface this news with a caveat: I do not know what breweries did and did not submit beer. Maybe your favorite brewery did not enter the competition. Still, a whole lot or breweries around the world submit beer to the U.S. Open Beer Championship every year and bringing home a medal is impressive.

Breweries from South Carolina to South Korea submitted more than 6,300 beers to the competition. Breweries from Italy to Indian were awarded medals in more than 110 different styles. The judging panel included judges from England, Canada, and the USA.

Of the Washington winners, Reuben’s Brews of Seattle made the list of the competition’s top 10 breweries, bringing home a total of 6 medals: 3 bronze, 2 silver, and 1 gold.

Some notable gold medal highlights for Washington breweries: Reuben’s Brews won the gold for New England Style IPA, Georgetown Brewing won the gold for West Coast IPA, and Bron Yr Aur Brewing won the gold for American Stout.

How is there not a line out the door?

Each time I return, for the mortadella sandwich with whipped ricotta and “pistachio jazz” at lunch or the black garlic knots at dinner, I marvel that the massive crowds of Seattle dining scenesters have yet to find it.
