One of the most original and exciting Seattle restaurants of the past few years has unveiled an expanded happy hour that makes us love them even more.

To their fantastic menu, Chefs Garrett Doherty and Shane Robinson of Kraken Congee in Pioneer Square have added new items including marinated cucumbers ($4) to start with larger plates such as grilled Chinese broccoli with XO romesco and fried garlic ($5), and soy mirin-marinated beef skewers with spring onion and sesame ($7). Classics like sticky icky fish sauce chicken wings ($5) and pork belly adobo pinch buns ($6) – the latter an all-time favorite of our former food and dining editor, Ali Austin Scheff, are still on the menu.

The happy hour menu is only available with the purchase of an alcoholic beverage, so you might as well try one of the new ones on the menu, inlcuding the J-Pop made with sake, passion fruit, green tea syrup, soda, and lime ($6); a Calamansi Margarita with tequila, triple sec, and calamansi juice; and, a Sour Diesel with whiskey, 5 spice, and lemon (both $6 each).

Happy hour is 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Kraken Congee is located at 88 Yesler Way in Pioneer Square.
