We blinked, it became 2016, and major food news is upon us–one bakery opening late last month, a unique juice bar opening this week, and a new Microsoft cafe come spring.

First order of business: the much-anticipated Amandine is finally open in Capitol Hill’s Chophouse Row. We’ve been following this developing story since July 2014, and here’s why: Sara Naftaly’s micro-bakery and cafe specializes in regional French and English classic pastries and breads paired with Empire Espresso drinks (created with housemade cashew milk for you lucky dairy-free folks). Everyone should get their paws on macaron Lorraine, puffed macarons with almond cream filling ($3); malt loaf, an aged British bread made with Zante currants and Jacob’s creamery butter ($5); and classic buttermilk cake made with quince, apple and blackberry ($5). Amandine is located at 1424 11th Ave. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends.

Next up: As if Mamnoon’s Wassef and Racha Haroun don’t have enough going on–e.g. executive chef Jason Stratton on Top Chef Season 13 and Mbar opening soon at 400 Fairview in South Lake Union–they just announced that anar, which means pomegranate in Persian, will be opening later this week in the Amazon Doppler Building. As Wassef and Racha explained it to me, anar is a Middle Eastern juice bar concept with nibbles. The space has gorgeous Moroccan-esque lanterns and tile walls. We are so freaking excited to see how they break through the $10-green juice doldrums, we’ll be there with straws on.

And in other major food news, Maria Hines has announced that she’s opening a restaurant on the Microsoft campus come spring 2016. According to The Seattle Times, the restaurant will be called Boardwalk and feature an organic take on traditional boardwalk snacks like hot dogs and pizzas. It will be the only eatery at Microsoft with a liquor license and you don’t have to work at the company to go there. Biodynamic deep-fried corn dogs, here we come.
