Catie Griggs has resigned as president of business operations for the Seattle Mariners.

In a statement, Griggs says she resigned to “prioritize her family” and relocate back to the East Coast to be closer to both her husband, Justin, and her aging parents. Prior to joining the Mariners in 2021, Griggs served as chief business officer for Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United.

Mariners Chairman and Managing Partner John Stanton will fill Griggs’ responsibilities on an interim basis until a new president of business operations is named. Griggs will remain in her role until later this month.

“I’ve truly had a mix of emotions as I made the incredibly difficult decision to resign from my role,” said Griggs, a native of North Carolina. “My time in Seattle getting to know this community will always be incredibly special to me.”

The Mariners achieved several notable milestones during Griggs’ tenure, including the club’s first playoff appearance in 2022 since 2001, as well as hosting the MLB All-Star game last year. The Mariners currently sit in first place in the AL West Division.

Stanton praised Griggs’ contributions to the organization.

“The Mariners grew as an organization and accomplished some great feats during her tenure,” Stanton said. “In talking with her as she grappled with this decision to return to the East Coast it was clear how much she valued the people that make our organization and team special.”

No timeline was given for filling the position.
