Help feed the hungry, and you can score free tickets to The Bumbershoot Arts & Music Festival.

As part of “Bumbershoot Gives Back, Powered by Amazon,” 2,000, two-day tickets will go to people who volunteer at select organizations focusing on food insecurity. Hunger affects more than 1.5 million people across the region.

The event was announced today at the Asian Counseling & Referral Services food bank in the Chinatown-International District. Amazon donated 30,000 pounds of food at the event. All told, Amazon and Bumbershoot will donate 90,000 pounds of food to Seattle-area food banks as part of the initiative.

People can sign up to volunteer at these agencies:

• Asian Counseling & Referral Service.
• North Helpline.
• University District Food Bank.
• Rainier Valley Food Bank.
• Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank.
• Tilth Alliance.
• Teen Feed.

Additionally, Bumbershoot will soon launch a virtual food drive organized by hunger relief nonprofit Conscious Alliance, where a limited-edition poster will be available by donation before and at the festival. Each donation will provide 80 meals. 

The festival is Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 — Labor Day weekend — at Seattle Center.

“We look forward to engaging thousands of volunteers throughout the community, who will receive tickets to the festival in exchange for their service via this innovative program,” says Camila Walter, executive director of Bumbershoot’s nonprofit arm, Third Stone. 

New Rising Sun manages and operates Bumbershoot on behalf of Third Stone, a nonprofit that offers a workforce development program for underserved youth. New Rising Sun this past spring, in partnership with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, announced plans to convert the vacant 66,000-square-foot former Bed Bath & Beyond space in downtown Seattle into an arts and music venue.
