We’ve had a busy week covering stories about Seattle and the incredible people contributing to our community. Our May/June issue, now on the stands, features 12 Trailblazing Women who, in their own words, share their paths to success. We kicked off the week with actress Jean Smart, and the executive director at the Washington State Women’s Commission, Grace Yoo.

Check out our fun story about Gen Z slang, and the guide we made to decode it. Plus, don’t miss our roundup of five things to do indoors in Seattle this spring while we wait for the weather to finally sort itself out and be sunny for more than a few hours.

We’ve rounded up this week’s best events, from Maren Morris rocking out at Chateau Ste. Michelle Amphitheatre to a street band festival filling the streets with music.

COPPÉLIA

May 31-June 9

McCall Hall, $30+

Coppélia is a charming ballet full of comedy and laughter. It’s about a quirky toymaker and his lifelike doll that causes all sorts of trouble. The dances are lively, the mime is playful, and the music is enchanting. It’s a fun show that everyone will love.

HONK! FEST WEST

May 31-June 2

Georgetown, Columbia City, and Pratt Park, Free

HONK! is a street band festival that takes over Seattle every year. Street musicians from all over the world play in parks and public spaces. The atmosphere is electric and upbeat, and you can’t help but dance along. It’s been a Seattle favorite since 2008. Perfect for a fun day out with friends or family.

MAREN MORRIS

Saturday, June 1

7 p.m., Chateau Ste. Michelle Amphitheatre, $97

Seeing Maren Morris at Chateau Ste. Michelle Amphitheatre is going to be a treat. Imagine her voice filling the air, surrounded by lush vineyards — the perfect setting for an evening concert under the stars. Grab a glass of wine, relax on the lawn, and hope for some sun.

ANIDA YOEU ALI: THE RED CHADOR

Saturday, June 1

10:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Seattle Art Museum, Olympic Sculpture Park, and Seattle Art Museum, Free

Anida Yoeu Ali and her team or artists will be decked out in vibrant chadors, performing at all three SAM locations throughout the day. They’ll kick things off at the Seattle Asian Art Museum, then head over to Olympic Sculpture Park, and wrap up at the Seattle Art Museum. After the performances, swing back to the Asian Art Museum to check out Ali’s exhibition, Hybrid Skin, Mythical Presence.

NANA KWAME ADJEI-BRENYAH

Tuesday, June 4

7:30 p.m., Town Hall Seattle, $12+

Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, a National Book Foundation “5 Under 35” honoree, is coming to Town Hall to talk about his debut novel, Chain-Gang All-Stars. This explosive book, already a bestseller, dives into a dystopian world where two women gladiators fight for their freedom in a prison system eerily similar to our own. Known for his powerful storytelling in Friday Black, Adjei-Brenyah’s work has been featured in The New York Times Book Review, Esquire, and The Paris Review. Don’t miss this chance to hear him speak about his gripping new novel.
