Talk about a perfect summertime blend: a glorious garden setting and a cocktail-making class.

This Thursday (7/17), 6-9 p.m., Swansons Nursery (Crown Hill; 9710 15th Ave. NW; 206.782.2543) hosts “Garden to Glass,” featuring a botanical cocktail demo by Amy Pennington of GoGo Green Garden (who also will be signing copies of her latest book, Fresh Pantry), food trucks, including Crema Crêperie, How Pickle Got Out of a Jam, Seattle Biscuit Company and Sweet Wheels Ice Cream Sandwiches, live music, an herb garden planting station and a raffle of Swansons’ planted containers. To attend, make sure you’re already 21, and sign up for Swansons’ newsletter at: http://swansonsnursery.com/sales-specials/e-newsletter/

Garden-party attire encouraged, but not required!

If you don’t have the time or inclination for in-person shopping, no problem. Ravenna Gardens (University Village, 2600 NE University Village; 206.729.7388) recently unveiled its new online store (finally!), where you can browse-and-click for great garden goods, from books and plants to garden gloves and sweet soaps handcrafted by Arlington-based Circle Creek Home (check out the vintage stepping stools on their site). FYI: An in-person event not to miss is an appearance by Seattle shop owner extraordinaire Ted Kennedy Watson on 7/26, 1-4 p.m., who will be signing copies of his new book Style & Simplicity.

As for a tempting road-trip option, there’s The Woodinville Tour of Gardens on 7/19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. As part of this 15th-annual self-driving tour, five private gardens will be open for up-close admiring. Tickets are $20, and available at Molbak’s, Boxhill Farm & Nursery, Wells-Medina Nursery, and online at http://woodinvillegardenclub.org/how-purchase-tickets. Don’t miss the after-tour reception, 3:30-5 p.m., at Molbak’s (Woodinville, 13625 NE 175th; 425.483.5000).

Whole-house renovation respects the aesthetics of its Capitol Hill neighborhood

Miriam Larson founded Story Architecture in the belief that, if she dug deep enough, each house and the family that lives in it would have a story to tell. In time, she would also conclude that some books are perfectly happy to be judged by their covers.
