No doubt you’re familiar with food and wine pairings. At Seattle’s Hotel Vintage (downtown, 1100 Fifth Ave.; 206.624.8000; hotelvintage-seattle.com), you can now experience wine and perfume pairings. The Vintage (a Kimpton hotel, formerly the Vintage Park) teamed up with Seattle fragrance designer Molly Ray (behind the label Mr.) to offer two scents designed to enhance the wine-drinking experience: The prominent notes in the perfume bring out the flavor notes of the wine, and vice versa. “[Wine and perfume] are both artisanal, Old World trades whose products provide multiple layers of notes and experience,” says Ray.

She describes Vintage Provence, with its notes of jasmine and tuberose, as “crisp, refreshing, inspiring and luxurious,” and recommends drinking it with a prosecco or dry Riesling. Earthy and sensuous, Vintage Tuscany has notes of leather and tobacco, and goes well with a Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah.

The organic, toxin-free fragrances retail for $20 per 6-milliliter bottle and can be found next to the goodies in the minibars of select rooms at Hotel Vintage. Not a guest? Not a problem. Hotel patrons and Seattleites alike can inhale while they sip by purchasing the fragrances at the hotel’s front desk.
