We’ve got big news: Today, local entrepreneur and angel investor Jonathan Sposato announced his acquisition of Seattle magazine, bringing ownership of the magazine back to Seattle.

We’ve had a great run under Minneapolis-based Tiger Oak Media, which has owned Seattle magazine for more than 20 years. (Seattle magazine was founded in 1966 by Harriet Bullitt.) But we’re excited to announce this new chapter under the direction of Sposato, current chairman of GeekWire.com, the region’s top technology news site, and PicMonkey, one of the world’s largest online photo editing services. Seattle-raised Sposato says it’s time the city “defined ourselves with more swagger as the world class city we’ve become.” We couldn’t agree more.

Together, we plan to grow Seattle magazine’s digital presence without sacrificing the beautiful monthly lifestyle publication you’ll still be able to have delivered to your home or pick up in the check-out line. Expect even more of what you love: provocative storytelling, striking photography and an inside perspective on what makes this city a diverse, exciting, culturally rich place to live. The change, both online and in print, will be evident this spring.

“Seattle is not dying, it’s thriving,” Sposato says. “I am buying Seattle magazine because I do not want it said that in the years when my generation came of age, that Seattle lost its voice. I believe Seattle’s best days lie ahead and Seattle magazine will tell the stories that shape our city for generations to come.”

Join us in welcoming Sposato to the team. Come grow with us, be bold with us. And follow along as we continue to uncover evermore reasons to love Seattle.
