Across the street from the EMP and Seattle Space Needle, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center is a hidden gem that embodies the city’s unique culture of entrepreneurship and philanthropy — making it an essential place to visit (and it’s free!). Here are three surprising things you will find when you visit.

|
1. REFRESH YOUR PERSPECTIVE
At the Gates Foundation Visitor Center, even the bathroom is more than a space to freshen up. Stall doors have photo decals of rudimentary toilets and latrines in urban and rural areas that inform you of the 2.5 billion people who don’t have access to safe toilets — a great reminder that a toilet that flushes into a working sewer is nothing to take for granted.

2. LEND YOUR SKILLS | |
Design a poster or bus ad for an issue that you’re passionate about with the touch of a finger. At the Gates Foundation Visitor Center, we invite you to interact with exhibits and put your skills to use. The Innovation & Inspiration Gallery is full of hands-on activities that invite you to create, build, and share.

3. SEE LOCAL AND GLOBAL PROGRESS
Reflect on a thought provoking video. See how local families are combating homelessness, meet the people who made India polio-free, and get inspired by a man who is reinventing the toilet, all within the comfort of the Gate Foundation Visitor Center’s theater.
