Meat: A Burger for every budget

Seattle's affordable burgers to brag about

New York has Daniel Boulud’s legendary DB burger, filled with braised short ribs and black truffles. And now Seattle has a burger to brag about from the geniuses in Campagne’s kitchen. The Campagne burger is a thing of pure indulgence: Idaho’s Snake River Farms ground beef is loosely bound and topped with a slice of foie gras, and then—why not?—black truffles are shaved over the entire thing. Divine, with one caveat: For $33, the bun should be better.

When it’s local, grass-fed beef you’re craving, Quinn’s Painted Hills Ranch (Fossil, Oregon) burger is impossible to beat. Cooked to a pink, juicy medium before getting a slice of cheddar and a couple of crisp bacon strips laid on top, it arrives alongside a pile of really great fries ($13).

We tried (and failed) to find a great burger made with local beef for less than $10. So, instead, we’re calling out our favorite burger in town: the freshly ground, hand-formed chuck masterpieces at Zippy’s in West Seattle. We happily wait (and wait) in line for the Zip burger with bacon and cheddar ($5.60), drippy with juicy meat and Zippy’s special sauce, plus tomatoes, onions, lettuce and pickles.
